The latest in the Sadler Seminar Series on the legacies of Zygmunt Bauman, with Mark Davis and Griselda Pollock.

Seminars to date in this series have explored the themes of: modernity and rationality; modernity and ambivalence.

In this seminar, we shall be considering the phase in Bauman’s work which identified postmodernity in its brief appearance as a cultural phenomenon and a conceptual term during the later 1980s and 1990s in relation to Bauman’s sociological thesis on morality arising from his analysis of Modernity and the Holocaust. In addition, we will be considering  Bauman’s important study of our relations to the unthinkable : death and dying.
