SEIZE Projects is an organisation run by a team of five artists, all of whom graduated from the School’s Fine Art programme: Daisy Forster, Lily Ackroyd-Willoughby, Tom McGinn, Sarah-Joy Ford and Ned Pooler. Together they co-ordinate an itinerant programme of events and exhibitions. Often critical or tongue-in-cheek, projects range from showcases of member’s own creative practices to large scale open calls and shows that contain a mix of invited artists, providing opportunities for emerging artists to exhibit alongside more established voices. Selected exhibitions and projects include a three-month residency at Set The Controls for The Heart of the Sun (Leeds), comprising the shows ‘Sell Out’, ‘Skin Deep’ and ‘Sleaze’ (all 2016) and PASTE, a city-wide poster campaign across Leeds to coincide with British Art Show 8 (2015). The group will be represented by two speakers for this event: Sarah-Joy Ford and Tom McGinn.
Sarah-Joy Ford is an artist who works with textiles within the entwined discourses of feminist and queer theory. She is a student of The School of the Damned and her recent exhibitions include ‘Stopjectify’ at Gallery Different (2016), ‘Ebc006’ at East Bristol Contemporary Gallery (2016), ‘Gone Fishing’ at Assembly House (Leeds, 2016).
Tom McGinn is an artist and curator who remixes particular art-historical legacies with elements of everyday life. Group exhibitions include ‘Company’ at The Laboratory Gallery (Edinburgh, 2016) and ‘Yeah no I Know’ at the Royal Standard (Liverpool, 2016). In 2015 Tom produced and curated ‘Common Bodies’ at Patrick Studios (Leeds): an immersive sculptural installation featuring digital videos by over 40 artists from across Europe.
