Opportunity for schools to exhibit work during our Degree Show
May 8th, 2017
An art competition for schools has recently been launched to tie in with this year’s BA/MA Fine Art Degree Show at the University of Leeds.
Key Stage 5 students from secondary schools in Leeds and the surrounding areas have been invited to take part in this exciting venture which has been organised by final year BA Fine Art students Susanna McAlpine and Georgia Taylor Aguilar in partnership with the Educational Engagement Team.
Winners will have their work exhibited in the School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies’ recently renovated building at the same time as this year’s Fine Art Degree Show, So What Of The Future? Successful students will also be invited to a private view for schools on 22 June which will include undergraduate student-led workshops.
Key Stage 5 students can submit artwork in any two-dimensional media, such as painting, drawing, textiles, collage, digital design or photography, and are encouraged to consider questions such as:
- How do you feel about the future, political, social or personal?
- How do you imagine the future for you and those around you?
- How do you imagine society might change during your lifetime?
The deadlines for submissions is 15 May 2017. Full details about the competition including submission guidelines can be found here.
Georgia Taylor Aguilar said:
“We are excited to offer this opportunity to students to give them a taste of an Art School and higher education. We are asking ‘so what of the future?’ Not just for our cohort but for future students and the creative industries.”
Susanna McAlpine said:
“I’m really looking forward to opening a dialogue between our undergraduates and the school students getting involved. I keep thinking I would have really appreciated an event like this when I was in 6th form, where you can get a real insight into your potential future should you decide to go to university.”
So What Of The Future? will run from 16 to 23 June in the School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies at the University of Leeds. See this year’s Degree Show website for more information or follow us on twitter, facebook or instagram.
