Many Interpretations: launch of exhibitions by MA Art Gallery and Museum Studies students

Mary Barker (ULITA); Chilean Wall Mural (LUU)

Various venues on campus.
Drop in any time.

Join us to celebrate this year’s MA Art Gallery and Museum Studies students’ interpretive projects and to hear insights from our graduating students’ placement experiences or dissertation research.

The projects are in collaboration with the University of Leeds on-campus galleries and archives: M&S Company Archive, ULITA – an Archive of International Textiles, Leeds University Union, The Stanley & Audrey Burton Gallery and Treasures of the Brotherton.

This year the topics range from Mary Barker’s experience of being the first woman to study Textiles at the University of Leeds through to the recently uncovered mural in the Leeds University Union painted by Chilean students in protest at the Pinochet regime in the 1970s.

We will also hear from our graduating students from the MA Art Gallery and Museum Studies and MA Arts Management and Heritage Studies programmes who will use a lightning talks format to talk about their dissertations or placements.

Refreshments will be provided throughout the afternoon and evening at the School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies.

Not all the archives and galleries are open after 5pm so we have provided a timetable below. Where you go first will depend on when you arrive. No matter where you go first, you will be met by our students to share their work and guide you onto the next exhibition or back to the School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies for refreshments.

To help us manage numbers for the refreshments please RSVP by booking your place here on Eventbrite.
